New Moon in Aquarius: 3-Card Spread

The New Moon in Aquarius is coming up on Thursday, February 15th.  This is an important moon for clearing away what’s not serving us and releasing what’s dragging us down.  Importantly, February only has a new moon – there’s no full moon this month.  Do some reflection on what areas of our life need improvement.  A spotlight may come up intuitively and nudge you in a certain direction.  Use the following new moon three-card spread to investigate and observe.  Set your intention to clear away what’s no longer serving us.

This particular new moon also is a partial eclipse.  This provides an extra opportunity to reboot.  Finally, the new moon in Aquarius is about a leap of faith.  This Aquarius energy tells us to go all-in – what do you need to let go of in order to run full steam ahead?  Be brave and trust in the universe to guide you.

Knight of Wands/Brother of Fire

knight of wands

While the Page of Wands is the initial idea, the Knight of Wands is the pursuit of that idea.  Like the page, the Knight is adorned with the salamanders, representing firey transformation.  This is also emphasized by the firey tassels adorning the Knight’s armor.  The horse, symbolic of vitality and action, rears up to charge forward.  The mountains in the background represent challenges to overcome in our future.  The armor is symbolic of protection and preparation.  All the Knights feature armor and a horse. BLUE/BLOOD MOON!

I’m taking a break from the normal card by card reviews to talk about the super exciting BLUE BLOOD MOON!  EEEEK!

Why is this moon so special?

First of all, it’s a blue moon.  This means it’s the second full moon in a month.  But it’s not just a blue moon.  It’s a LUNAR ECLIPSE!  This is the first blue moon total lunar eclipse in the US since March of 1866.  It’s also a SUPERMOON, which means the moon is at the closest point of its orbit to earth, aka the “perigee”.  This means the moon looks bigger and brighter than usual.  The eclipse will also give the moon a reddish hue, which is why it’s described as a “blood moon”.  Alternatively, some Native American tribes refer to this moon as a “snow moon”.

In astrology, a full moon represents the end of a cycle.  It’s a time to release things that don’t serve us and to move closer to who we’d like to be.

This particularly special full moon is happening in Leo.  It’s a call to act from the heart, to follow our passions and do what we really love.

Here’s a full-moon tarot spread to try during this special full moon.  Enjoy!

Page of Wands/Sister of Fire

page of wands

The Page of Wands shows a young man or woman looking out over a barren desert, considering the possibilities.  He’s got an air of confidence and is the guy who inspires change.  The prior wands have been really hustling to get their work done.  Here the Page is taking a pause, learning to mature that fire energy.  He’s learned we get burned with that fire when we rush.  The card is a reminder to release some of the past energy we don’t need to carry forward any longer.  He reminds us to pause, reflect, and breathe before we take that next leap.   Continue reading

X of Wands/10 of Fire: The Cage

ten of wands

The Ten of Wands shows a man walking with a whole bundle of wands.  He’s walking toward a house in the background.  The house is symbolic of protection and safety he’s achieved in building up his empire.  In many of the wand cards preceding the Ten of Wands, there were mountains in the landscape, representing challenges ahead.  In this card, however, there are no mountains.  The only ‘burden’ is of the man’s own design – the giant bundle of wands he’s carrying.  The plowed field represents the final stage of completion on this work journey – he’s reaped the harvest and now is struggling to bring those fruits to market.
